"How to"

Apply for residency in Colorado: Colorado requirements for residency are whichever of the following occurs first:

  • Own or operate a business in Colorado
  • Are gainfully employed in Colorado
  • Reside in Colorado for 90 consecutive days
  • Once residency has been established, you have 30 days to register your vehicle

Obtain a driver's license: To be issued a Colorado driver's license you must prove the following elements your full legal name, identity, age, and lawful presence in the U.S. by providing a birth or marriage certificate (if a name change occurred), your social security card and/or a prior driver's license.  The Driver's License Office for Larimer County is located at  3030 S. College Ave., Fort Collins CO 80526, (970) 494-9804.


Register a vehicle: To register a vehicle in Larimer County you'll need to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles located on the first floor of the County Building. Please visit the county's website to find out what information you'll need to bring with you when registering a new or out-of-state car. The Department of Motor Vehicles is located at 200 W. License your pet:
Pets are required to be licensed within the City of Fort Collins through the Larimer County Humane Society. Please visit the Humane Society's website for further information on licensing.  The Larimer Humane Society is located at 6317 Kyle Ave., Fort Collins, CO 80525, (970) 226-3647.


Change your address:
Visit one of the Post Offices in Fort Collins to pick up a change of address packet usually found by the mailing slips. Fill out the portion that requires your information and hand it to a clerk or drop it in the mail.
