Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce

Local Government

Fort Collins businesses and residents are fortunate to have well-run, professional county and city governments.

Even so, government officials may not always understand how their actions impact business. To provide that perspective, the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce has a very active local government affairs program. Among other things, the Chamber regularly attends City Council meetings, meets with city and county government staff and elected officials, discusses and sets policy in its Local Legislative Affairs Committee (LLAC) and lobbies officials directly and by providing testimony and written background material on issues that will impact business.

The Chambers' Local Legislative Affairs Committee is one of the best informed group of people in Fort Collins. The LLAC consists of Chamber members who are appointed by the Chamber Board. And talk about dedicated: they meet every Friday morning. The LLAC is responsible for monitoring city government, county government and the school district.

To ensure fleetness and flexibility, the Chamber Board has empowered the LLAC to set policy on behalf of the Chamber for local issues. Regarding ballot measures, however, the LLAC makes recommendations to the Board, which takes final action.
