The presentation took place at the Annual Mayor's Awards in the Fort Collins Senior Center.

The Employer of the Year Award recognizes one area business that supports the disability community by creating accessibility to its facility or by providing viable employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

“For nearly 30 years, the Commission on Disability and the Mayor's office have set aside this time to give those touched by the kind deeds of others a chance to express their thanks,”¯ said Mayor Karen Weitkunat. “In doing so, we recognize not just the actions of our nominees and award winners, but also the cumulative impact those actions have on individuals, on families and indeed, on the entire community.”¯

Located at 218 Walnut St. in Old Town, the Silver Grill was recognized for its employment of John Primsky Jr., a young man with Down syndrome. John has worked at the café for almost two years, performing various kitchen duties, including prep work and soup warming.

“The entire Silver Grill staff has contributed to my son's employment success,”¯ stated John's father. “From the moment we inquired, they were positive, providing training and coaching. The Silver Grill stands out as a great Fort Collins employer - especially in supporting persons with a developmental disability.”¯

Silver Grill owner John Arnolfo added, “John is a warm personality and one of our most dedicated employees. We're thankful to receive this important award and proud that our relationship with John can serve as an example to other businesses.”¯
